1Make way for the young
In the next ten years, the younger generation should gain more influence.
“The Facebook project was conceived as a way to empower millennials to talk about issues that matter to them, but these changes have not yet taken full effect. I am confident that by 2030 there will be more young people in politics, and more attention will be paid to climate, education, and health issues, ”Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
The head of the social network intends to help young people through his charitable foundation, in particular, to invest in young entrepreneurs, scientists, leaders, and more personalized training.
He also focuses on small businesses. In the next decade, he plans to create commercial and payment tools that will allow any small entrepreneur to gain access to technologies that were previously available only to large companies. Today, his platform is already helping more than 140 million businesses reach their customers.
In his opinion, if anyone can sell products through Instagram, communicate and support customers through Messenger, and transfer money to another country through WhatsApp, it will create tremendous opportunities around the world.
2The internet will save the world
The Internet gave people a “superpower” – to be in touch from anywhere in the world, and also provided each person with independence. Currently, the head of Facebook is launching a large-scale project, the implementation of which will allow people from all over the world to get access to it within five years.
“The Internet will save 160 million people from poverty, 140 million people from unemployment,” Zuckerberg said from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly.
Regarding Internet regulation, Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page that large companies often have to navigate between freedom of speech and security, between privacy and law enforcement. To address these problems, he expects clear decisions from the authorities of democracies regarding elections, protecting privacy, and combating inappropriate content in the coming years. Independent bodies, with the help of which society itself will be able to resolve conflict situations, will also acquire increasing importance.
3Remote job is the future
“I believe that in the next five to ten years, half of our employees will be able to work remotely, but we are going to achieve this gradually,” the billionaire wrote on his Facebook page.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Facebook conducted a survey among employees about what they think about working from home. More than half said they were at least as productive as they were in the office. About 40% of employees have expressed an interest in full-time telecommuting. However, more than 50% want to return to the office as soon as possible. Of those who want to work remotely, about 75% said they want to relocate.
At the same time, as Zuckerberg notes, the remote location definitely has more than just bright prospects. For example, during self-isolation, it was hard for parents, because their children had to stay at home instead of school. Lonely people, for whom communication with colleagues is the only outlet, is also not easy. When there is no clear line between work and home, finding the right work-life balance can be very difficult.
“I am concerned that social ties are weakened between employees, especially newcomers. When everyone is disconnected, there are questions about the creative process. I have no doubt that most of us would really like to see each other live as soon as possible, ”writes the head of Facebook.
But there are a number of obvious advantages to working remotely. In particular, Zuckerberg has no doubts about the prospects for remote hiring. Almost all large companies are looking for personnel in megacities. Thus, they lose sight of the mass of talented people just because they live outside the big center. Wide access to promising talent will make companies, including Facebook, more diverse in every way.
“New opportunities outside the big cities will help boost economic recovery — especially if more companies take over remote hiring. Quarantine opened up these prospects, ”Zuckerberg is convinced.
As technology advances, the share of fully teleworking is likely to increase across all sectors of the economy. Over time, location will have less of an impact and people will feel needed wherever they are. Plus, reducing travel to work will have a positive impact on the environment.
4Virtual reality will erase inequalities
Zuckerberg notes that the tech industry has seen the biggest economic growth in the previous decade, and technology will continue to create new opportunities in the coming years.
The main technology platform of the 1990s was the desktop personal computer, the World Wide Web dominated in the 2000s, and smartphones took over the world in the 2010s. Each time the platforms became more accessible and natural for interaction.
The head of Facebook believes that in the 2020s, the smartphone will remain the main device for users, but its capabilities will expand with the help of augmented reality tools. While they are bulky and expensive, over time, revolutionary solutions will appear that will redefine the relationship of users with such technologies.
“It will be a full-fledged effect of presence – the feeling that you are right there, with another person or in another place. Then it will be possible to fully live, study and work somewhere in a cozy place with cheap real estate, and contact in virtual reality, leveling any inequality, “Zuckerberg is convinced.
